RELIGIOUS SECT OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES LIQUIDATED IN KARACHAY-CHERKESIA
Organization was given frequent warnings and fines were assessed, but it continued its extremist activity
In Karachay-Cherkesia, the local cell of the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses was found to be extremist. According to the decision of a court, it was liquidated and its immovable property will be turned over for government use. This was reported to IA Regnum on 17 February in the press service of the regional prosecutor's office.
We note that the local cell of Jehovah's Witnesses also wound up earlier in the field of vision of law enforcement personnel. Thus, previously its leadership was issued a warning about the impermissibility of violations of the law. However this did not frighten the sectarians and the organization continued to conduct illegal extremist activity.
Against this the prosecutor's office opened a proceeding on an administrative violation of law. The court issued a decision on this, holding the religious organization administratively accountable, in the form of a fine of 50,000 rubles, with confiscation and destruction of literature of an extremist nature.
But even after this the leadership of the organization did not cease its activity. This time the prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit for its liquidation.
The court rendered a positive decision—the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses, operating in the city of Cherkessk, was found to be extremist and subject to liquidation. The property that it was using in the form of a building and land parcel located on Fabrichnaia Street, building 139G, was turned over to state ownership.
