BREAKING NEWS: RUSSIAN SUPREME COURT ANNOUNCES DECISION TO LIQUIDATE RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES IN RUSSIA

Judge Ivanenko announced in the evening of 20 April the resolutive part of the decision of the Russian Supreme Court in the lawsuit of the Russian Ministry of Justice for the liquidation of the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia. "To liquidate the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia and the local religious organizations that are constituent members," the decision reads.
As a Portal-Credo.Ru correspondent reports, the decision is subject to immediate execution for the cessation of the activity of the organization. As a whole, the decision may be appealed within one month's time at the Appeals College of the Supreme Court. (tr. by PDS, posted 20 April 2017)
SUPREME COURT RULES JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES AN EXTREMIST ORGANIZATION
The Supreme Court ruled the activity of the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia to be extremist and banned its work, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the courtroom.
Thereby the Supreme Court granted the lawsuit of the Ministry of Justice.
The court also confiscated the property of the center.
"To convert the property of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization into state income," Judge Yury Ivanenko said.
The Jehovah's Witnesses center may appeal this decision. If it files an appeal, the order concerning the ban will not take legal effect. However earlier the Ministry of Justice already suspended the work of the center until the final resolution of the dispute in court.
The Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia is the head organization, managing the affiliates of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia. This religious organization regularly has problems with the law in Russia, from judicial orders to ban its activity and liquidate its divisions to fines for possession of extremist materials.
