Overview of Undergraduate Degree Requirements

The courses that students take to earn an undergraduate degree can be divided into three broad categories:

The number of courses required in each category depends on the School or College that oversees the studentís major. Students in the University Honors Program do the general education requirements for that program in place of the general education requirements for their School or College. The following table shows the broad framework for the degree requirements in each program.

Each student will work in consultation with a faculty adviser, but the student has responsibility for choosing courses that will give the best education consistent with his or her career goals and interests. Thoughtful students will choose classes that exercise and build skills, stretch the intellect, and encourage a life-long habit of learning.
