CIVIL RIGHTS AND THE QUEST FOR JUSTICE
57
IV. Postscript
The one law professor in American who has most fully grasped the story of
Unlikely Heroes
is Robert (Bob) Bickel of Stetson School of Law, who has
developed a full course built around the book. He told me he believes every
law student in America should read it. He and I have become friends, and
I’ve made several visits to his law school to speak with students and once
for a presentation to the full faculty.
Over the years, I’ve had several young lawyers tell me they were consid-
ering or had decided to drop out of law school until reading
Unlikely Heroes.
They said it gave them new insight into what law can achieve. It remains in
print with the University of Alabama Press
.
