This program is approved by the Florida Department of Education. The program outlined here assumes that the student is fully certified at the bachelor's degree level in elementary education. Students seeking initial certification or who are secondary education certified may be required to complete an additional coursework. This program is currently under review to add English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) endorsement in addition to Reading Certification.
Why choose Stetson University? Stetson is well known for its education program. We offer small classes taught by experienced Stetson faculty. We are conveniently located and classes are held in the evening and on some Saturdays to make it easier to fit busy schedules. There are online connections to the main campus library and textbooks are mailed to students from the bookstore.
A thirty hour Masters in Reading Education can be completed in 14 months. Students may take slow track which will result in obtaining the degree in two years.
The Program is state and nationally accredited by the FL DOE and NCATE. Since reading is a critical shortage area, part of the tuition is reimbursed by the FL DOE. There is a 40% discount for employees of public schools or non-profit agencies and financial aid available. Classes begin in May (Summer 1). Graduation will be the following July (Summer 2) Fast Track. Note that the GRE is not required with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better.
