• Due to the open nature of Web technology, this course is built around open-source, freely available software. This reduces students costs to zero for applications required in teaching the course content. This also permits us to provide the students with complete copies of every piece of software without violating any license agreements with the providers of the technology.
  
• Also of major importance, the open-source technologies used in the course will make up a suite of products that are in use on a vast number of Web sites and online services available today. This ensures the students are acquiring skills on the most popular products and systems in use in the real marketplace.
  
• Lastly, every product proposed for the course runs on Microsoft Windows. This permits the students to use it at home, making self-study outside the class a reality. Only slight modifications for Macintosh users would be needed (but this is very easy).
