As the door closed on the final moments of the nineteenth century, a handful of undergraduate men began meeting between classes at City College of New York. Some had known one another before they graduated from the New York public school system, and they had wanted to continue their friendships at City College. The obvious solution was to join a fraternity, but there was just one problem: this was no ordinary group of undergraduates. They were an affiliation of Jews and Christians; and, at the time, entry to all-Jewish and all-Christian fraternities was barred to individuals and groups that mixed religions.
Given that their close association challenged the conventional behavior of the day, perhaps it was only natural that the undergraduates took an even bolder step by founding their own Fraternity on December 10, 1899. Symbolized by the Greek letters Delta, Sigma, and Phi.
Thus, Delta Sigma Phi was formed to maintain and strengthen friendships, while pursuing knowledge, and bringing together people to do so regardless of their background. These core values formed over 100 years ago still ring true with our fraternity brothers today, which is why they are maintained and protected by us.

Membership in Delta Sigma Phi encourages the individual and the chapter in their pursuit of knowledge and intellectual development. This includes not only mastering academics, but also having a thorough understanding of the surrounding world, allowing our brothers to become contributing citizens upon graduation. Encouragement and utilization of diversity is part of this understanding. We achieve this through our academic programs, campus involvement, leadership development, multicultural education, and study abroad opportunities.

Delta Sigma Phi men are committed to high standards of moral conduct and to bettering themselves and the world around them. We realize that holding ill-feelings toward any person on group of people is only destructive to this cause. Therefore we pride ourselves on acting chivalrous, particulary towards women. Every year we recognize two undergraduate women who have made outstanding contributions to the fraternity with our "Sweetheart" and "Sally Sartane" awards. We live our value of harmony through community service, philanthropic efforts, assisting other greek and Stetson organizations, leading chivalrous lives, and maintaining family values.

You'll form friendships at Stetson, some of which may be very good ones. However, these relationships will not be as strong as the ones you form with fraternity brothers. This is because you will have a special bond that only you and your brothers share. This bond begins with your pledge class during the new member process, and is strengthened as you work together to better the fraternity and each other, all the way until you graduate and become an alumni of the chapter. Your time spent together in good times and in bad will result in a loyalty that is only common to brothers. In addition, your involvement with the fraternity, resulting involvement on campus, and the numerous social opportunities Delta Sig provides will result in you meeting and becoming friends with some amazing people.
