Description: The application of analytical tools and thinking to financial issues faced by firms. The emphasis is on the ability to develop the reasoning necessary to make sound financial decisions as managers regarding topics such as investment, capital structure, and project analysis.
Core Competencies:
- Understand Risk and Portfolio Analysis: Risk measurement and control through portfolio selection and diversification.
- Understand the application of Time Value of Money concepts such as present and future values, compounding and discounting.
- Apply valuation models to debt and equity instruments, including common and preferred stock and long-term debt.
- Understand the cost of capital, both weighed average cost of capital and marginal cost of capital.
- Understand and apply capital budgeting techniques such as net present value, internal rate of return, modified internal rate of return to project evaluation.
- Be able to analyze project cash flows in both conventional and unconventional patterns.
- Understand capital budgeting issues: optimal capital budget, project life, abandonment options, etc.
- Understand capital structure decisions.
- Understand working capital management.
