Description: Modern managers must be able to deal with complex issues in the workplace. This course considers competencies necessary for a healthy personal as well as work environment to exist. These include personal awareness and development, communication, relationship development, and strategic thinking regarding the organization.
 

Core Competencies:
  • Personal Awareness-being aware of personal values and ethics; perceptual and decision-making preferences; personal goals; personal strengths and weaknesses; emotional predispositions; personal biases.
  • Self-Management: Ensuring a realistic and healthy approach to work and life, including personal stress and time management.
  • Personal Development: The pursuit of life-long learning and the ability to ask self-developmental questions and find their answers.
  • Relationship/Team Development: Developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; learning to tolerate and appreciate different perspectives; handling conflict constructively; team development skills.
  • Leadership: Motivating oneself and others to engage their work with a sense of purpose and meaning and so enhancing performance and satisfaction. This might require the development of persuasive communication, and negotiating skills.
  • Strategic thinking: Envisioning future consequences for decisions which depend on multiple interrelationships. This might require future development of creativity, systems thinking, decision making and visioning skills.
  • Communication skills: Written and oral skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Identify key issues; explore all possible points of view; questioning assumptions; arriving at realistic solutions.
