Celebrating, near and far

SU meets NYC

Alumni from Stetson's DeLand campus and the College of Law gathered at City Hall in Tribeca (New York City) for an alumni event in October.

How long has it been since you’ve come “home” to Stetson? Whether it’s been 5 or 15 years, Homecoming 2011 is the perfect time to call your friends and plan a trip back to DeLand.

Things may have changed on campus, but your memories still remain the same. Alumni will have a fun-filled weekend to revisit the friends, activities and places on campus that have made Stetson a part of their lives for years. Join us for Homecoming 2011, March 25-27.  Political Science alumni are invited to several alumni reunion events during the weekend. Check the Homecoming website for additional details.

Classes ending in ’01 and ’06 will be celebrating reunions.  If you are interested in reconnecting with classmates, volunteering to serve on your reunion committee will provide you with that great opportunity.  Visit your individual Class Reunion web pages for the most up-to-date information on your reunion events. You can find your class year’s web page by clicking on the appropriate button on the right-hand side of the Homecoming website.

In the meantime, here are some updates about alumni activities:

Have a H.A.R.T.

Hatters are giving back to their alma mater this year by staffing more than 84 college fairs in 15 states, as well as adopting 41 schools in 10 states and one international location! They are part of the new H.A.R.T initiative, the Hatter Alumni Recruitment Team. Listen to what some of your fellow alumni are saying about it.

Sue Orrell

“Representing Stetson University at college fairs in the Houston area was a pleasure. The interaction with potential students and their parents was invigorating. Everything was so well organized that I did not have to worry about logistics. I was so proud to speak of Stetson’s reputation and opportunities. ‘Selling’ an out-of-state school to Texans is not easy, but many took the time to listen to what I had to say, fill out the inquiry card, and make complimentary comments on the materials that were available to them. I look forward to being involved in the next round of college fairs in the Houston area.”

Sue Orrell ’66, who worked the college fair with June Farrell ’96

“Representing Stetson keeps me connected — beyond keeping up with the facts and statistics, I’m remembering the best parts of my college experience and making the connections of how Stetson got me where I am. Prospective students and the counselors who work with them listen to and remember best our personal accounts and specific examples of what makes Stetson the quality, distinctive university it is. Stetson speaks for itself through our interpretations, fond memories, and ability to tangibly represent its success.”

Events

This fall, over 300 alumni gathered in 10 cities to celebrate Stetson and re-connect with fellow Hatters. Alumni in Atlanta, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., met with University President Wendy B. Libby, University Provost Beth Paul, and Dean of the School of Business Administration Stuart Michelson, while alumni in South Florida gathered for a Florida Marlins game.  Coming up in February will be a joint service project with Bonner Students, the Alumni Association Board of Directors and alumni participating in a special day in the DeLand community — the Doug Lee Day of Service. Keep an eye out for events in your city by visiting the Alumni Association website. In the meantime, enjoy these photos of fellow Hatters reminiscing at alumni events far from their Stetson home.
