From Homecoming to golf, we’ve had a great spring!
It was a time to celebrate, and celebrate we did. With nearly 1,000 alumni in attendance on an absolutely beautiful Florida weekend, Hatter spirit was in the air. Upon arrival to campus, guests quickly took note of all the renovations made to campus, especially the new landscaping. Many could not believe their eyes at the improvements and could not wait to see what else was new around campus. From Presser Hall to the Edmunds Center, the changes made everyone proud to be a Hatter!

Alumni and friends gathered at the International Food & Wine Festival during Stetson's Homecoming 2011.
The main events were “the place to be”, filled with magnificent food and friends, especially at the Food and Wine Festival in the Palm Court. Alumni Awards were presented to some of our most impressive alumni. Croquet was played on the President’s lawn during breakfast, music was a highlight at several events and reunions were scattered throughout Downtown DeLand. Athletics provided a wonderful array of events from Men’s Baseball, to our new club sports teams of Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse. Men’s and Women’s Soccer and Volleyball hosted alumni games. Derek Maul’s ’80 reflection on the Men’s Soccer alumni match was featured in the Spring/Summer edition of the SU Magazine, a must read.
Dr. T. Wayne Bailey was honored for his service to Stetson and the community at a reception on Saturday morning. A highlight of the reception was his surprise at the announcement that Max Cleland ’64, Hon. ’77, Hon. ’08 had named the Library’s Politicos Room for Professor Bailey. Congratulations to Dr. Bailey!
Wrapping up the weekend was the ever popular Mainstreet Block Party with live music featuring two bands. Run Rhino started the evening and featured Stetson alumni and current students. The main act featured two of our own alumni, Matt Burke ’03 and Brue Baker ’03, in their award winning group, The Matt Burke Band: www.mattburkeband.com.

We look forward to seeing you in the Fall of 2012 on November 2-4 for Homecoming 2012. We promise a fun-filled weekend!
It’s a Hatter Double Header
Tampa alumni from both the DeLand campus and Law Schools participated in back to back events April 19 and 20. Hatters started off with the Men’s Baseball team playing the University of South Florida, then hit Emerald Green Golf and Country Club for the Ninth Annual Mad Hatter Golf Classic. Although our Baseball team was handed a loss, the golf tournament hit a home run raised nearly $16,000 for scholarships benefiting Hillsborough students. GO HATTERS! A big thank you to Lu Prats ’78, JD ’81 and Carlton Fields for being the tournament Presenting Sponsor, to John Oakley ’75 our tournament director, and a wonderful group of area alumni who served on the committee to make the tournament a success.
Intuition Ale Works
It wasn’t long after Stetson announced that we were bringing back football that our Jacksonville District Co-Chairs Frank Morreale ’93 and Bill Laird ’99 decided to rally the Jacksonville Hatters for a happy hour at Intuition Ale Works. The event brought out two local trustees Geoff Jollay ’75 and Kathy Graf ’76, and a former Football player, Vic Muzii ’58 who played on Stetson’s last football team in the 50s. Vic shared several memories about his days on the field and of course, wore his Stetson football t-shirt.
Executive MBA Reception
The annual Executive MBA Alumni Auction and Dinner was held on May 14 at the Celebration Golf Club. Entertained by a strolling comedian and magician, more than 90 alumni and guests participated in the event. Special guests included President Wendy B. Libby and Provost Beth Paul.
SWFL Hatter Golf Scramble
Despite the fact that no one won the car at the hole-in-one, fun was had at The Fifth Annual SWFL Hatter Golf Scramble. The Carracino Family, one of Stetson newest Hatter families, joined Hatter teams at Heritage Palms Golf and Country Club June 25. The tournament was a great success thanks to Steven R. Whitley ’75 of Wiltshire, Whitley, Richardson and English, PA being the tournament Title Sponsor. A big thank you to WWRE and all our other sponsors and golfers who raised nearly $4,000 for Stetson undergraduate students from Lee, Charlotte, and Collier County.

I really enjoyed Spring Homecoming 2011 and enjoyed the beautiful music, the planned events, Greek Open Houses, arts, and learning what a clamshell was and buying one. Everyone was so helpful and friendly.
I paid my goodbyes to Stetson Hall which will be torn down. I remember it was quite old
when I was living there my sophomore year in 1962-63. I look forward to Fall Homecoming 2011. I will be there, will you? Denise Wall Ward ’65
