On Friday, January 20, 2012, the new Stetson Hatter Mascot was revealed during the Hatter Basketball half-time show. After the Hatter Mascot Challenge design contest last spring, 5 finalists, including one winner, were chosen and awarded with genuine Stetson hats. James Geiger ’59 submitted the winning design and was given a weekend stay at Disney’s Swan and Dolphin Resort. Keeping the inspiration of the university alive, Director of Athletics Jeff Altier ’82, MED ’87 notes that John B. embodies “the pioneer spirit” of Stetson Trustee John B. Stetson and founder Henry A. DeLand.

I seriously doubt the wisdom of adding football to sports. In this age, it too often opens the door to a second-class citizenship of men of less than adequate preparation being fooled into thinking they will recieve quality education while being nothing more than gladiator/slaves for the school.
