[ ALLIES ]
The Allies program at Stetson University is currently under going major reconstruction. We will hopefully be starting this program again in the Fall of 2009. If you have any input or would like to be a part of the Allies Program, please contact the Kaleidoscope President. ( mhenders@stetson.edu)
History of Allies The Allies program was started during the summer of 2001 as a program to foster and support diversity and pluralism at Stetson University's Cross Cultural Center. This program is supported by a group of students, staff, faculty, and alumni who are interested in showing support for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in the university community. The first initiatives to establish this program took place during the 2001-2002 school year.
Purpose The purpose of Allies is quite simple. Those involved in the program wish to identify themselves as individuals who are willing to provide a safe haven - a listening ear and support for gay, lesbians, bisexual, and transgender people in the community.
Membership Any person who is willing to attend an Ally Workshop is welcome to do so. The Workshop is an interactive discussion where participants learn about issues and experiences affecting the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. After completion of a workshop, participants who agree to become Allies will receive a placard indicating their involvement in the program to display in their residence or workplace. Workshops are held at various times throughout the year.
