Acquisitions/Collection Development

Each academic department is allocated funds based on historical spending patterns and use of ordered materials. Faculty input in the development of the collection is highly encouraged.

Faculty members may request that a book, journal, video, or other item be ordered for the library's collection by clearing the expenditure with his/her department chair or library liaison and sending the request to Debbi Dinkins by mail (Campus Box 8418) or email to ddinkins@stetson.edu. Order cards are also available upon request and may be used for ordering.

The Library also sends "Choice Reviews" on cards to the department's Library liaison. These reviews are for books which might be considered appropriate for college libraries, and the reviews are by faculty in the appropriate fields. The Choice card may be used as an order card. The online version, Choice Reviews Online (http://www.cro2.org/) is available to the Stetson community. Lists generated from the online database may be used for ordering if emailed to Debbi Dinkins at ddinkins@stetson.edu.

The Library subscribes to two important online reference works for collection development: Resources for College Libraries and Ulrich's Periodicals Directory. These are also available through the Library's database page
