Choosing a Calculus Course
Most Science and Business majors will be required to take a calculus course.
The course in which you begin will be determined by three things:
1.your desired major
2.your course experience
3.your math placement score
Science and Math Majors
If you have AP credit for Calculus AB or Calculus BC, then you will may begin in Calculus II (MATH 142) or Calculus III (243). Otherwise, you need to take the Mathematics Placement Exam to determine the best course for you. Depending on your placement score, you will start in MATH 141, MATH 130, or you will be recommended to complete a computerized module in precalculus mathematics.
Business Majors
Business majors are required to take either Calculus for Business Decisions (MATH 122) or Calculus I (MATH 141). If you have AP credit for Calculus AB or Calculus BC, then you will not need to take any further calculus. Otherwise, you need to take the mathematics placement exam to determine the best course for you. Depending on your placement score, you will start in MATH 141, MATH 130, MATH 122, or you will be recommended to complete a computerized module in precalculus mathematics.
