Coddu Vecchiu Tomba di Giganti Chambered Tomb in Sardinia
This megalithic tomb has been dated to around 1800 b.c.e. It began as a corridor type burial tumulus (visible behind the stele) and was later decorated with this striking forecourt whose focal point is a 4.40 meter stele. The stele is composed of two pieces of granite that have been skillfully mortised together. It is thought that the small opening represents a passageway to the land of the ancestors. The orientation of the site is almost due west. The nearest town is Arzachena. There is an information center at the site.
