Callanish Menhir, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland
This photo highlights the large menhir in the 12-meter-in-diameter ring of large stones in the center of the monument. The stones are of Lewisian gneiss. They were buried in peat moss almost 6 feet deep before being cleared in 1857.
