Alumnae and Alumni

Former Officers Spring 2006

Name: Kate Libby
Position: Vice-President
Major/ Minor and interests: French major, Minors: Art (photography) & American Studies
Why did you join OSAPE?: I joined OSAPE because I like what it stands for. Not enough students are interested in even considering issues of race, class, and sexuality. OSAPE, however, is very attentive to these issues, not only recognizing them, but making an effort to change the problems. Educating students about problems with diversity on campus is important, but actually creating ways for students to get involved and make that difference is even more important, and that is exactly what OSAPE does.

Former Officers Fall 2005

Name: Joshua Miller
Position: Vice President (Executive Committee)
Majors/minors and interests:
Political Science and English/ Art History and Philosophy
Why did you join OSAPE?:
I was tired of male apologists thinking a simple "sorry" would shatter glass ceilings.  I was tired of organizations comprised of "activists" who'd rather discuss Chomsky than actually work in a homeless shelter.  I was tired of being in organizations comprised of people who'd never read Chomsky in the first place.  More than anything else, I was tired of "causes" in name-only that were more concerned with promoting the promoters than the locus issues themselves.  OSAPE isn't as much about propping up single individuals as it is about celebrating and defending the commonalities and differences between us all.  OSAPE goes for the throats of actual oppression in its quiet enclaves of ennui.

Name: Sandy Fowler
Position: Treasurer/ Finance Chair/Coordinator (Executive Committee)
Major/minor and interests: Political Science/ American Studies
Why did you join OSAPE?: I enjoy being in OSAPE because it allows me to explore and better understand all kinds of equality, not just sexual or economic. OSAPE is a safe haven where everyone can come together and learn from each other. It's about respect and understanding. As the treasurer, it's my job to make sure that we have funding for as many projects as possible.

Name: Kelly Britcher
Position: Sexuality Chair/ Coordinator
Major/minor and interests: Political Science, with interests in enviromental protection/justice, GLBT rights, and all things geeky and nerdy
Why did you join OSAPE?: I joined OSAPE because I believe in "the cause." Equality is essential to progress and true freedom. Equality on paper isn't enough - it must be more than that, and I think that is where OSAPE can do the best work.

Name: Lauren Hill
Position: Gender Chair/Coordinator

Name: Kia Wright
Position: Ethnicity Chair/ Coordinator
Major/Minor and interests: Political Science/Spanish. I love going to the movies, clubs, and theme parks. If I have to stay home, I like inviting friends over and playing cards.
Why did you join OSAPE?: I joined OSAPE because I have been looking for an organization that shares my values. I think equality and a true understanding of it needs to be spread across campus. There are a wide array of students on our small campus and in order to grasp an understanding of what someone we are not accostumed to being around, is truly, our peers need to be educated and we are teh ones who need to get out there and educate. Being an active member of OSAPE is going to empower me to be involved as part of the solution. I want new students as well as returning students to feel welcome and free to be themselves and not afraid to meet people who seem different. Being chair of ethnicity I plan on getting students involved from every background. In order to learn from each other, we have to be around each other. I want everyone to feel welcome to participate in OSAPE activities.
