Who we are

The Organization for Students Actively Pursuing Equality (OSAPE) is a student organization on the Deland, FL Stetson University campus. OSAPE was initially started by a group of five students with the common goal of promoting equality on campus, in the community, and globally. With over two years invested in the creation of a vision for OSAPE, it was finally officially approved as a student organization in the Spring semester of 2005.

What we do

We focus on issues of gender, ethnicity, class, sexuality, age, health, and ability, and we encourage students to join and help us in our fight to end inequality. Some examples of our campaigns include National Condom Week and sponsoring a Men Can Stop Rape workshop on campus. OSAPE believes that all students, regardless of gender, must share responsibility for improving the quality of life on campus.

Where you can find us

OSAPE meets in the Cross Cultural Center at 5:00pm every other Monday evening. Please join us and help make a difference on campus and in the community!

A. Official members may vote on any pending decisions brought up during meetings.

1. Election of Chairs

Elections shall be held in the second week of April on an annual basis. Voting shall be done by secret ballot.

Chairs shall serve for the academic year following their election

2. Removal of Chairs

All members may submit a written complaint to the president and vice-president regarding the desire to remove a chair. If the complaint is regarding the removal of the president, it may be submitted to the vice president or Finance-Secretary Chair/Coordinator. If the complaint is regarding the removal of the vice president, it may be submitted to the president or Finance-Secretary Chair/Coordinator. If the complaint is regarding the removal of the Finance-Secretary Chair/Coordinator, it may be submitted to the president or vice-president. As stated earlier, once O.S.A.P.E. gains more official members, more Chair/Coordinators will be established. When this happens, together with the Finance-Secretary Chair/Coordinator, vice-president and president, they will form the Committee of Officers. Each position in this committee is open to removal and will go through the same removal process as the Finance-Secretary Chair/Coordinator. So, the position being challenged will be given the opportunity to state his/her case as to why the complaint is unfounded or they may choose to resign. If the first is chosen, the official members will hear the case in a closed meeting with the president, vice-president and corresponding chairs. A vote will be taken in which two-thirds majority of members present will be required to remove the president, vice-president or corresponding chair.

3. Removal of Official Members

The same process for the removal of chairs shall apply to the removal of official members. Grounds for removal may be any actions or use of offensive language that violates the safety or attempts to silence the voice of official or unofficial members. The vote will be open to all official members in a closed meeting and a two-thirds majority of those present is required.

4. Replacement

Should a chair resign or be removed, a special election will be held at the next meeting to fill the position.
