Images and Ritual Meanings

Zorats Megalithic Complex, Armenia

The Zorats Karer (Zorats stones) site dates to the fourth millennium b.c.e. and was in continuous use for 4000 years. Many contemporary scientists believe the site was used for astronomical observations. Located 3 km north of Sisian, the complex consistes of hundreds of standing stones laid out in an area over 3 hectares. Photo Courtesy of Robert Higgins, June 2007.
