Callanish Stone Circle, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, Scotland

Callanish is one of the most impressive megalithic sites in the world. It contains a stone circle with a small cairn inside it. Radiating out from the circle are two stone avenues or processional routes, and two stone rows. The quality of the gneiss standing stones is exquisite. The shape of Callanish remarkably resembles a Celtic cross. This photo was taken around 8:30 p.m. on June 9, 2000.
