Why Join Sigma Alpha Iota? SAI for your College Life Sigma Alpha Iota is an organization which promotes interaction among those who share a commitment to music. Members of SAI are active in all areas of campus music and campus life, working closely with faculty, administration, campus and community groups, music professionals and patrons. In addition to personal encouragement and support, members may receive scholarships, loans and awards in many areas and at all levels of music-related study. Sigma Alpha Iota has long been recognized as a leader in the field of music and provides a lifetime of fraternity contact. - Taken from the national website SAI for a Life of Music Even after college, women may affiliate with an alumnae chapter to continue their service to music. Alumnae members receive all the benefits of college members. They are eligible for awards, may attend the national conference, participate in SAI Philanthropies, recieve the Pan Pipes newsletter, and more. SAI alumnae chapters provide a great place to keep in contact with other women interested in music once your college experience of living in the music school is over. How to Join College students must fulfill the following membership requirements: * Demonstrate a sincere interest in music, including those who major or minor in music. * Complete one or more semesters, including one or more music courses. * Achieve a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 2.9. Individual chapters may require a higher GPA. * Meet local Member-in-Training requirements. * Meet the financial obligations. * Pass the national membership test. Non-student members are women musicians not enrolled in a formal music curriculum. They must be trained sufficiently to earn a living in a music profession and be active in that profession. The non-student member must be approved by the SAI National President in consultation with the Province Officer. The non-student member automatically assumes alumnae status at the end of the fraternity year in which she is initiated. The Eta Pi chapter at Stetson University holds rush events during the fall semester. These events are designed to allow potential members to learn about SAI and meet the sisters of the Eta Pi chapter. At the end of the semester the Formal Tea rush event is held, where new ladies wishing to join SAI will state their intentions to pledge. During the spring semester, the new ladies officially become Members-in-Training (MITs) and enter member education training. They will be given a Big Sister to guide them as they study for their membership exam and complete their musical community service projects. Upon passing the exam, new ladies will be initiated as full sisters of Sigma Alpha Iota. SAI does NOT haze its members-in-training. No SAI member or potential member will EVER be placed in any situation that is embarassing or dangerous. SAI National's hazing and substance abuse policy can be downloaded by clicking here. Eta Pi is a family built through friendship and mutual interest, NOT through trial. |
