Web Sources: The sources indicated below will take you to a variety of internet links. Some of these will point you to varied web sources. How to evaluate these sources is a major concern. Some web sources are major advocacy channels and may be full of inaccuracies. An excellent discussion on this is found at : http://www2.widener.edu/Wolfgram-Memorial-Library/webevaluation/webeval.htm thanks to the Widener Library. Note especially "advocacy pages" at http://www2.widener.edu/Wolfgram-Memorial-Library/webevaluation/advoc.htm
Webcat on the internet. The Webcat provides access to gold mines of information: books, journal articles, law review articles, court cases, newspapers. The home page will indicate whether you want the WebCat online catalogue or the Databases. The online catalogue allows you to search for books and also to see which journals the library has. The Databases provide a listing of databases for search news articles, court cases, journal articles, etc. These are referred to in many of the other sections on this resources page. (See listing of databases of special importance in the section immediately below concerning Articles -- Journal or Newspaper. The home page of the library also has information for access to the library resources from off-campus. It's very simple and will provide a pop-up screen needing only your Stetson email address and password.
Articles--Journal or Newspaper
-To locate a journal article that is either online or in the library Go to the Webcat Database for a listing of different collections of articles such as EbscoHost (see list below). It will indicate general categories of databases. Find "Articles on Social Sciences and click on "political science" and then choose which is most appropriate. It is a good idea to search several of them.
---A listing of the journals in Stetson Library can be found at: http://www.stetson.edu/departments/library/alljrls0.htm if you want to see if a particular journal is available either in hard copy in the library or online. It's often a good idea to check to see if the journal with the article you've located is in the library since if it is you can see it easily and also note other articles in the particular journal that may be of some use.
NOTE ESPECIALLY that there is a route into newspapers and journal articles not available through the general Web sites one locates through a general search engine. For example you cannot browse full text articles in the Wall Street Journal without a subscription. Also there are opinion pieces in The New York Times that require a subscription. HOWEVER, if you go to the Stetson Library Database site at http://www.stetson.edu/departments/library/database.html and under "Newspapers" look for Pro Quest Newspaper and click on it you will go to a search page where you can access full text articles from the Wall Street Journal, the opinion pieces from The New York Times, etc.

It is amazing what is on the internet. One need only go to one of the
search engines such as Google at www.google.com
or Yahoo at http://yahoo.com and indicate
a country such as Nigeria or a topic such as "German politics" or "abortion"
or a resource such as "maps" or "newspapers" and a listing of possible
sites is presented. For example, if you read in another language, say Spanish,
you can locate Spanish language papers such as La Jornada and El
Universal easily or German papers such as Die Zeit . Simply
by searching for "Germany" or "Mexico" will often bring you into contact
with a university where there is a center for German politics or Latin
American politics, etc. These web pages often then have links to other
sources concerning the topic. The search for "Nigeria" will bring you into
a site with headline news sources and other information on Nigeria. You
can also get into library information in libraries throughout the world
including the Library of Congress. Using a search engine is sort of like
a treasure hunt with numerous markers along the way.
