"The Effects of Race on Called Strikes and Balls." This research examines pitch-by-pitch data from the 1989 through 2010 Major League Baseball seasons, to investigate the extent to which player race and ethnicity impacts the outcome from the subjective decision as to whether a pitch is called a strike or a ball. "Explaining Success in Baseball: The Local Correlation Approach." Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, vol. 7, issue 4 (2011). This paper develops a nonlinear regression procedure, and an associated local correlation function, as a tool for analyzing sports statistics data.
