"The Effects of Race on Called Strikes and Balls." This research examines pitch-by-pitch data from the 1989 through 2010 Major League Baseball seasons, to investigate the extent to which player race and ethnicity impacts the outcome from the subjective decision as to whether a pitch is called a strike or a ball. "Explaining Success in Baseball: The Local Correlation Approach." Journal of Quantitative Analysis in Sports, vol. 7, issue 4 (2011). This paper develops a nonlinear regression procedure, and an associated local correlation function, as a tool for analyzing sports statistics data. "Did C.S. Lewis Write The Dark Tower?: An Examination of the Small-Sample Properties of the Efron-Thisted Test." Austrian Journal of Statistics, vol. 38, no. 2, pp. 71-82 (2009). This paper applies and extends statistical procedures developed by Efron and Thisted for investigating a question of literary authorship. With Jeffrey R. Thompson.

"The Assessment of Predictive Accuracy and Model Overfitting:  An Alternative Approach." Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, vol. 20, no. 1, pp. 125-131 (January, 1993).  This paper provides a simple approach for estimating the degree to which a logistic regression model overfits the data.  With Mary S. "The Determinants of Incumbent Union Victory in Raid Elections," Labor Law Journal, vol. 43, pp. 221-228 (April 1992).  This paper examines factors which contribute to success in "raid" elections for labor union representation.  With Edwin Arnold and Clyde S. Scott.

"Tradeoffs in the Choice Between Logit and OLS for Accounting Choice Studies." The Accounting Review, vol. 66, pp. 170-187 (January 1991).  This paper examines when logistic regression models may be appropriately used, with particular attention to issues in accounting research.  With Mary S.
