Jehovah's Witnesses in southeast Russia harassed by prosecutor

PROSECUTOR DEMANDS CLOSING OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES' BRANCH IN ABINSK

Gazeta.ru, 16 December 2014

The prosecutor's office of Krasnodar territory is demanding the closing of the Jehovah's Witnesses branch in Abinsk, the press service of the agency reports.

It is noted that previously one of the members of the organization was held administratively liable for distribution of the books "Humanity in Search of God," "What Does the Bible Really Teach?" and "The Bible: God's Word or Man's?"  These publications are included in the federal list of extremist materials.

The prosecutor sent to the Jehovah's Witnesses a written warning about the impermissibility of distributing forbidden books, but the organization continued to distribute the publications to all who wanted them.

The declaration of the prosecutor's office was sent to the Krasnodar territorial court.

It was previously reported that the Russian Supreme Court ruled the website of the Jehovah's Witnesses' international organization to be extremist. (tr. by PDS, posted 17 December 2014)
