Ukrainian Orthodox unable to conduct dialogue among themselves

UPTsMP HAS CONTACTS WITH UPTsKP REPRESENTATIVES, BUT NO DIALOGUE

Religiia v Ukraine, 22 December 2014

The chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow patriarchate), Metropolitan of Borispol and Brovary Antony, commented upon relations of UPTsMP with UPTs of the Kiev patriarchate, Religiia v Ukraine reports, citing the website of UPTs.

"At the present time the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has no official dialogue with the so-called 'Kiev patriarchate,'" Metropolitan Antony said. "By decision of the UPTs Holy Synod at the end of February of this year, a commission was created for preparing such a dialogue. However, unfortunately, after this, relations between parishes of our church and representatives of the 'Kiev patriarchate' noticeably worsened. Therefore even today the start of a dialogue appears extremely problematic. But this does not signify an absence of contacts between representatives of UPTs and UPTsKP."

Vladyka Antony said that representatives of UPTsMP regularly meet within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, and they participate together in the work of academic conferences and in ceremonial state events.

"We urge the faithful of UPTs to display genuine Christian love with regard to our brothers who are remaining outside of communion with world Orthodoxy. In circumstances of armed conflict in east Ukraine, we should devote a maximum of efforts to preserve interconfessional and inter-religious peace within the country," Metropolitan Antony declared.
