KIEV COUNCIL DECIDES TO RESCIND UPTsMP'S TAX PRIVILEGES
The Kiev City Council adopted a decision according to which the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow patriarchate (UPTsMP) is deprived of tax privileges on land containing houses of worship and on immovable property.
Seventy-eight deputies voted for the decision, a correspondent of LV.ua reports.
The author of the amendment, a deputy from Svoboda, Alexander Semenenko, emphasized that such an initiative is explained by the attitude of UPTsMP toward events in the Donbass and because they refuse to perform funerals for fallen soldiers and occupy an "anti-Ukrainian position" in the combat zone in eastern Ukraine.
"By today's decision, UPTsMP is deprived of such privileges," he stated. This decision does not affect other churches.
UPTsMP has still not commented upon this decision. (tr. by PDS, posted 29 January 2015)
