Late head of Ukrainian Orthodox community replaced

UAPTs BISHOPS' COUNCIL ELECTS ACTING PRIMATE

An extraordinary Bishops' Council of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church today, 27 February, elected a locum tenens of the primatial see of UAPTs. He is Metropolitan of Lvov Makary, who administers the Rovno, Volyn, and Tauride dioceses.

 

The session of the extraordinary Bishops' Council was held in Ternopol.

 

Makary Maletich was born 1 October 1944 in the village of Krasnoe in the Turka district of Lvov province. On 10 August 1975 he was ordained a presbyter of the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1982 he graduated from Moscow Ecclesiastical Seminary by correspondence. He served as a priest in Donetsk, Luhansk, Rostov, and Lvov provinces. In 1993 he left the RPTs. In 1996 he was consecrated UAPTs bishop of Lvov by bishops Dimitry, Igor, and Mefody. (tr. by PDS, posted 1 March 2015)
