Ukrainian lawmaker speculates about Russia's "Orthodox card"

KREMLIN PLANS TO ORGANIZE INTERCONFESSIONAL PROVOCATIONS IN UKRAINE—VRU DEPUTY

RISU, 11 March 2015

Russia is playing the "Orthodox card" as part of a "New Russian Spring." In particular, the Kremlin is planning interconfessional provocations in order to discredit Ukraine. Therefore it is quite likely that soon the UPTsMP will enact a number of initiatives that may provoke a patriotic environment for vigorous actions against the Moscow patriarchate. In addition, on 18-19 March 2015 a delegation of the World Council of Churches is supposed to come to Kiev.

This was reported by Andrei Levus, a people's deputy of the Supreme Soviet of Ukraine [Verkhovnaia Rada Ukrainy—VRU], Presa Ukraini reports.

It has been emphasized that the Kremlin's mechanism for splitting Ukraine consists in the creation of numerous conflicts in all public matters, particularly religious, national, political, and social ones. The goal of such a "Novorossia Spring," the people's deputy said, consists in the destruction of Ukraine as a integrated state.

In addition, Levus maintains, the Kremlin is awaiting the seizure of UPTsMP churches and monasteries in order to accuse Ukraine afterward of persecutions of "Orthodox believers." He also stressed that the information space has already been "warmed up," and the Kiev caves lavra, the Pochaev lavra, and Volyn may become "religious hot spots," since the Russian federation wants to see such pictures as burned-out churches and beaten-up priests.

In addition, the chancellor of UPTsMP, Antony, has already declared that attempts "of forcible illegal seizure" of UPTsMP churches in Kiev, Lvov, Ternopol, Volyn, Rovno, and Cherkassy provinces are happening continually.

"Reports about the likely transfer of Crimean dioceses of the UPTsMP to membership in the Russian Orthodox Church also are a sign of the heating-up of the situation and possibly the beginning of the project. Details of the likely scenario have already been delivered to Ukrainian special services," Levus summed up.

We recall that it was reported earlier that militants of DPR and LPR published information about how the Russian federation is preparing new anti-Ukrainian rallies. (tr. by PDS, posted 11 March 2015)
