DESECRATION OF ALTAR OF OLD CHURCH IN KIEV PROVINCE COMMITTED BY UNIFORMED PERSONS UNDER PRETEXT OF WEAPONS SEARCH
Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate, 6 April 2015
As the portal Pravoslavnaia Zhizn reports, on 4 April, Lazarus Saturday, an abuse was committed on the unique church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in the village of Gusintsy, Borispol district of Kiev province. A group of men in masks with weapons in their hands introduced themselves as agents of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and conducted a search of the church, in the process desecrating church sacred items. In particular, the men dismantled the sacred Throne.
The church, which has an almost 200-year history (founded, 1822), was flooded by the waters of the Kanev reservoir in 1971.
Parishioners note that the inspectors did not produce any documents or orders that would permit them to conduct a search in the church,
Local believers express outrage with regard to the abuse of the old church.
We recall that recently a commission of OSCE refuted a slander against parishioners of the St. Nicholas cathedral of the city of Stakhanov regarding the maintenance of weapons caches on church territory. (tr. by PDS, posted 8 April 2015)
