JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES ACCUSED OF EXTREMISM IN KARACHEVO-CHERKESIA
Activity of the organization may be banned on territory of the republic
The prosecutor's office of Karachevo-Cherkesia is demanding the liquidation of the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses. As the press service of the oversight agency reported to IA REGNUM on 2 June, the prosecutor's office sent a corresponding statement to court.
The grounds in connection with which the prosecutor's office advanced such a demand with respect to the organization is the conduct of extremist activity: members of the organization distributed forbidden books that are included in the federal list of extremist materials. Among them are "Questions of Youth. Practical Advice" and the leaflet "What should one know about God and his will?"
We recall that earlier for the action of mass distribution and possession of books forbidden by law which contained extremist contents, the prosecutor sent a written warning to the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses about the impermissibility of conducting extremist activity. As IA REGNUM reported, the organization itself was held administratively liable with the assignment of a fine. However, despite the application of preventive measures, this organization continued to distribute the forbidden books. (tr. by PDS, posted 5 June 2015)
