UGKTs SYNOD OF BISHOPS SHARPLY CONDEMNS BLOODSHED AT SUPREME SOVIET
The synod of bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGKTs), which is being held in Ivano-Frankovsk in these days, received with great alarm the news about bloody provocations at the walls of the Supreme Soviet (Verkhovna Rada) of Ukraine in the city of Kiev on 31 August.
"We decisively condemn this bloodshed and we emphasize that the use of force in all forms cannot be justified by any political goals.
"At the time when we should be striving for consolidation of our people, in view of the external aggression, rash steps that may provoke destabilization of the domestic situation are especially dangerous.
"We call citizens of Ukraine to maintain civil peace and constructive, public dialogue in the state.
"We call the faithful of our church in all the world and all peoples of good will to fervent prayer for the victims and members of their families.
"May the all-merciful Lord bless us with peace and grant wisdom and strength for defending and building independent Ukraine," the appeal of the UGKTs synod of bishops says, which was published on 31 August by the Department of Information of the UGKTs. (tr. by PDS, posted 3 September 2015)
