Moscow church metropolitan reacts to Kiev violence

UPTs HEAD PRAYS FOR KILLED AND INJURED IN CLASHES NEAR RADA

The primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow patriarchate, Metropolitan Onufrey, prayed on Tuesday for all those killed and wounded as the result of confrontations near the Verkhovna Rada, the website of the UPTsMP reports.

 

At the suggestion of President Petro Poroshenko, the Ukrainian parliament adopted on Monday on first reading the draft of changes to the constitution of the country for decentralization. After the voting, people rallying against the adoption of the changes tried to storm the Rada and an unidentified explosive device was thrown in the direction of the police.

 

As a result of the confrontation, three law enforcement officers died and more than 140 persons were injured, of whom 56 were troops of the National Guard. Three are in serious condition. The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the arrest of a fighter of the volunteer battalion Sech; according to preliminary information it was he who was able to throw a grenade into the security personnel.

 

"On 1 September, during the divine liturgy, Metropolitan Onufrey raised special prayers for all those wounded during confrontations near the Verkhovna Rada and for the repose of the late fighter Igor Debrin, who perished on 31 August from the explosion of a grenade thrown in the direction of law enforcement personnel," the report says.
