RPTs THANKS
POLICE FOR ARREST OF LEADER OF THE SECT OF THE "GOD KUZYA"
The Russian
Orthodox Church (RPTs) thanked police officers for the arrest of
the founder of
the sect, Andrei Popov, who calls himself the god Kuzya, the
head of the
synod's Information Department of the RPTs, Vladimir Legoida,
declared. He said
that the sect used Orthodox symbols for deceiving believers.
"Deception
of donors stupefies people, makes them distrustful, and instills
fear that
their charity will go to a bad cause. This can blunt the feeling
of
compassions," Legoida explained to Interfax.
On Thursday it
was reported that Moscow police arrested the organizer of the
sect, who calls
himself the god Kuzya and a number of his closest associates.
Within
the
context of searches that were conducted by Moscow police
officers in the
place of residence of the organizers of the far-reaching
destructive sect,
around 43 million rubles and over 100 thousand USA dollars were
seized. Also
seized were personal computers and notebooks containing
so-called bookkeeping
notes, providing evidence of the illegal activity by members of
the sect for
taking possession of citizens' money.
A
criminal case on the charge of "Fraud" was initiated against the
leader of the sect.
We
recall
that in November 2013, a criminal case was opened against
members of the sect
of the "God Kuzya" for an attack on a film crew of the program
Line
of Defense, and on a woman who was accompanying the journalists.
As reported,
the incident occurred in one of the apartments of building No. 9
on
Krasnoproletarskaia St.
The
television
company noted that the attempt of journalists to meet with
Andrei
Popov provoked an aggressive response by the sectarians. The
film crew and the
aide who accompanied them were attacked and they received
several blows. Then
the sectarians attacked them with an aerosol can spray of a
white substance. As
a result, the producer of the film crew, Viktor Dunaev, received
chemical burns
on the face and the woman accompanying them received burns on
the face and
eyes, and the video equipment was damaged.
Previously,
the
RPTs sharply condemned the activity of the sect and called it
dangerous.
