Charity director fined for possession of Jehovah's Witnesses literature

PRESIDENT OF "NEZAVISIMOST" CHARITY FOUNDATION HELD ADMINISTRATIVELY RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTING EXTREMIST BOOKS

The prosecutor's office of Kirov district of the city of Samara conducted a check on compliance with legislation for combating extremist activity, on the basis of information from the Center for Combating Extremism of the Chief Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Samara province.

 

In the course of operational searches by the center in June of this year in the premises located at the address Building 18a, Enisei St., Samara, the book "Worship the Only God" was discovered and confiscated; this book had been found to be extremist by a decision of the Rostov provincial court of 11 September 2009, and it is included in the federal list of extremist materials.

 

The indicated premises are used by a foundation for accomplishing charter purposes as a center for the social adaptation of citizens. The prohibited literature was located on a bookshelf and was accessible to visitors.

 

Because of the identification of violations of legislation for combating extremist activity, the prosecutor for the district issued an order for opening a case of administrative violation of law provided for in article 20.29 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the RF (production and distribution of extremist materials) against the president of the charity foundation "Nezavisimost," Yan Chernobai. As a result of the court's consideration of the case, he was found administratively responsible and fined 1,500 rubles, with the confiscation of the object of the administrative violation of law.
