KADYROV'S APPEAL REGARDING ISLAMIC BOOK REACHES SAKHALIN COURT
An appeal by the head of the Chechen republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, against a decision of a judge of a South Sakhalinsk city court finding the book Prayer to God: its Significance and Place in Islam to be extremist has been delivered to the Sakhalin provincial court, an aide to the chairman of the court, Svetlana Rybakova, reports.
"A verification is being conducted and an administrative case is being prepared for consideration in appellate court," the report says. Rybakova specified that the case reached the court on 13 October. There is still no information about a date for conducting a hearing.
Kadyrov previously protested the decision of the judge of a South Sakhalinsk city court, Natalia Perchenko, that ruled in August of this year that the book Prayer to God: its Significance and Place in Islam is extremist material, and he also called Judge Perchenko and Prosecutor Tatiana Bilobrovets "national traitors" and "shaitans" and demanded that they be held accountable. The court's decision was also appealed by the prosecutor's office of South Sakhalinsk.
The head of Chechnya said that the grounds for finding the book extremist were Al-Fatiha and other suras of the Quran, including quotations from the sacred book of Muslims. (tr. by PDS, posted 14 October 2015)
