Violence against supporters of UPTsMP

SECURITY GUARD SHOT AT UPTsMP CHURCH IN LUHANSK PROVINCE

RIA Novosti, 27 October 2015

A security guard of the church consecrated to the Three Holy Prelates in the city of Popasnaia of Luhansk province, located in the armed conflict zone, was shot by an unidentified person, the website of the Severodonetsk diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow patriarchate reports on Tuesday.

"An autopsy showed that there were seven bullets from a Makarov pistol in the body, in the head, jaw, neck, shoulder, and arm. Signs of a struggle or robbery were not discovered. Traces of the crime were not cleaned up, which speaks of the pride, arrogance, and confidence of impunity of the murderer," the press service quoted a relative of the victim, the rector of the church, Archpriest Alexander Strebakov.

The murder was committed on the territory of the gate-house. The suspect is being sought by police. The press service explained that according to one account, the motive for the murder was a hostile and aggressive attitude of the criminal toward the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow patriarchate.

The UPTsMP recalled that this was not the first instance of an attack on Orthodox believers in Ukraine. In the night of 23 October, in Sumi, a participant in the armed conflict, Evgeny Skorobogatsky, was killed, who publicly supported the UPTsMP, and in the night of 22 October, on the territory of the Transfiguration of the Savior cathedral church in Sumi, an attack on a security guard was committed, as the result of which the victim lost consciousness and is now in intensive care in serious condition.
