Court orders dissolution of Jehovah's Witnesses congregation in Orel

ON BASIS OF PROSECUTOR'S CONCLUSION, RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION RULED EXTREMIST

One of the largest and most active destructive religious sects operating on the territory of the province is the Orel Jehovah's Witnesses religious organization. This organization is a member of the structure of the centralized religious organization the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia.

 

On the basis of materials from personnel of law enforcement agencies regarding the chairman of this organization and other active members in 2015 and the current period of 2016, agencies of the prosecutor's office issued 9 warnings about the impermissibility of conducting extremist activity.

 

On 14 June 2016, the Orel provincial court issued a decision granting the administrative petition of the Directorate of the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation for Orel province for finding the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses of Orel to be extremist and for its liquidation and removal from the Uniform State Register of Legal Entities.

 

The basis for issuing the judicial decision was the conclusion of the prosecutor's office that participated in the case regarding the frequent distribution by the religious organization of extremist literature that is forbidden in the Russian federation, which the leadership of the organization admittedly knew about.
