POROSHENKO CALLS UNVEILING OF MONUMENT TO PRINCE VLADIMIR IN MOSCOW AN ATTEMPT AT MISAPPROPRIATION OF HISTORY
Interfax-Religiia, 8 November 2016
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko subjected to criticism what he termed to be attempts by the Russian side to appropriate for itself Ukrainian historical events and personalities.
"These days, yet another monument was unveiled: in the Kremlin, near the unburied Vladimir Lenin, they opened a monument to our apostolic Kievan Prince Vladimir. This is yet another attempt at the hybrid misappropriation of history," P. Poroshenko said on Tuesday during a ceremony of unveiling a monument to the Ukrainian philosopher Grigory Skovoroda in Ljubljana.
The monument to Prince Vladimir on Borovitsky Square in Moscow was opened on 4 November. The initiator of the construction of the monument was the Russian Military Historical Society. (tr. by PDS, posted 9 November 2016)
