ANNOUNCEMENT: ON 17 JULY 2017 RUSSIAN SUPREME COURT MAY OVERTURN DECISION AGAINST JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES
Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, 10 July 2017
On Monday, 17 July 2017, a hearing will be held on the appellate complaint of the "Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia" on the decision of the Russian Supreme Court of 20 April 2017. This decision affected all 175,000 adherents of this religion in Russia, because by a single stroke of the pen all of their 396 registered organizations in Russia were liquidated and their activity was prohibited.
In addition, the court ruled the confiscation of property of all these religious organizations. As a result, besides the appeal from the Administrative Center of this decision, a total of hundreds of appeals were filed from the other 395 liquidated local religious organizations of Jehovah's Witnesses and from hundreds of individuals whose rights were directly affected by the court's decision.
