L.P.R. DESCRIBE FUNCTIONING RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATIONS IN REPUBLIC
More
than 350
religious organizations and associations are functioning on the
territory of
the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (L.P.R.), Andrei
Litsoev, the
head of the Department for Affairs of Religious Organizations
and Spirituality
of the Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Youth of the L.P.R.,
declared at a
briefing.
"On
the
territory of our republic there are 346 religious organizations
and
associations, representing 11 different confessions, and five
religious
organizations who do not identify themselves with any religious
confession," Litsoev explained.
He
emphasized
that the dominant confession is Orthodoxy.
"On
the
territory of our republic there are about 197 Orthodox churches,
on whose
territory there are 40 Sunday schools," the speaker specified.
Litsoev
emphasized
that in the L.P.R. religious organizations face fewer problems
than
on the territory controlled by official Kiev.
"There is a difference in what happens in Ukraine and here in our republic. And this is confirmed by representatives of various confessions themselves . . . . Reviewing our situation, they say that here we have it much easier," the speaker explained. (tr. by PDS, posted 21 December 2017)
