Follower of Buddhist sect loses appeal of conviction for illegal evangelism

FALUN GONG DEVOTEE FINED FOR "ILLEGAL MISSIONARY ACTIVITY" IN YALTA

Yalta city court left in force a decision about imposing a fin e on O. Sabitova, an adherent of Falun Gong. The woman was fined 5,000 rubles for preaching in a park.

 

On 27 December 2017 it was learned that on 7 December 2017 a Yalta city court found a decision of a Yalta magistrate court issued on 1 November 2017 with respect to O. Sabitova, an adherent of Falun Gong, to be legal.

 

O. Sabitova was held administratively accountable on the basis of part 4 of article 5.26 of the Code of Administrative Violations of Law of the RF (conducting missionary activity in violation of the requirements of legislation on freedom of conscience and religious confession and on religious associations) and was fined 5,000 rubles for her September preaching in a park.

 

The protocol which was the basis for issuing the decision of the court says that "On 18 September 2017, from 9:00 to 10:30 at the address: Yalta, Seaside Park, O. Sabitova conducted missionary activity, distributing information about the religion (doctrine) of Falun Dafa (Falun Gong)." (tr. by PDS, posted 27 December 2017)
