Prosecutor uses new approach to restricting Jehovah's Witnesses

The prosecutor's office of the city of Prokhladnyi, within the context of executing an order of the prosecutor general of the Russian federation of 19 November 2009, "On organizing prosecutorial oversight for compliance with legislation on combating extremist activity," has been conducting on a regular basis monitoring of information communication networks on the Internet.

 

In the course of monitoring, four websites of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia were found, which contain various sections, publications, magazines, books, video, and news about the religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.

 

In accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian federation of 20 April 2017, the religious organization of the "Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia" and local religious organizations that are members of its structure were prohibited.

 

On the basis of the results of the monitoring that was conducted, four petitions for restriction of access to the aforementioned web resources were sent to a court. (tr. by PDS, posted 16 February 2018)
