The mission of the Stetson University Environmental Responsibility Council (ERC) is to promote environmental responsibility throughout the institution, including its curricula, policies, operational practices, and external ties.

In view of the unprecedented world environmental crisis, Stetson University has committed itself to incorporating principles of sustainable living on its campus. The goal is to function as a university in ways that will not compromise the lives of future human generations nor diminish the health of planetary ecosystems. As a responsible institution of higher learning, Stetson intends to advance the ecological literacy of the University community by modeling environmental stewardship in its physical plant and by embodying sustainability in its institutional operations.
University President Doug Lee established the Environmental Responsibility Council (ERC) in 1998. The ERC includes participants from a broad spectrum of the Stetson community: staff, students, administrators and faculty. Our Board of Trustees unanimously agreed to have President Lee sign the Talloires Declaration and he did so on March, 2000, thus committing our university to a sustainable future.  Please contribute your ideas to the ERC by e-mailing its Chair, Dr. Cindy Bennington, at cbenning@stetson.edu. If you would like to join the on-line conversation about Stetson "greening," click here. This effort can only be successful to the extent that it receives broad support from the University community. Please help shape our environmental future at Stetson.
