Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia, 7 November 2017
Residents of Sergiev Posad Viacheslav Stepanov and Andrei Sivak, who over the course of seven years were subjected to criminal prosecution for their religious confession, received letters from the Sergiev Posad city prosecutor's office with apologies and an explanation of the procedure for their rehabilitation.
In the letter, the assistant prosecutor of the city, A.K. Sergeev, reported: ". . . in the name of the state, I bring you an official apology for the moral damage caused to you in connection with the baseless criminal trial on article 282 part 2. [ . . . ] You have the right to demand that written communications be sent regarding the decision that was made that acquitted you to your place of work, study, or residence. In the event that information about . . . illegal actions taken with respect to you was published in the press or distributed by radio, television, or other means of mass communication, you have the right to demand that the respective media make a report about your rehabilitation."
The Federal Financial Monitoring Service has already informed the believers that their names have been removed from the list of "persons with respect to whom there exists information about their affiliation with extremist activity." (tr. by PDS, posted 10 November 2017)
