Millan: Ecdysis

Angelica Millan (2013) created a series of three paintings entitled Ecdysis as part of her senior thesis in ARTS 499 taught by Gary Bolding.

In her artist statement, she explains: “There is a parallel between my psychological transformation of identity and the biological metamorphosis arthropods experience when they shed their exoskeleton. This parallel prompted me to create a series of three self-portrait oil paintings, composed of ornate fabrics sewn together, and modified with bleach.”
