Just Plain Folk

Works from the Michael Murrell Collection. The folk artists represented in this collection are from the Southeast United States. These artists are untrained and mostly unaware of the contemporary art world. They create “art from the heart” springing from an innate desire to express themselves visually. Michael Murrell is a retired sculpture professor from Georgia State University.  He began collecting folk art about 25 years ago and found this form of art to be direct and refreshing.

The exhibit runs until February 28, 2015 at the Hand Art Center. Join us Friday, January 16, 2015, from 6-8pm for a reception that is free and open to the public.

Spring 2015 Gallery hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 11-4pm Thursday 11-6pm Saturday 12-4pm By Appointment. Closed University Holidays
