The Hunton Andrews Kurth National Championship is the Super Bowl of all moot court competitions.\u00a0 The top 16 team from around the nation are invited to compete in this special three-day competition.\u00a0 The invitation is based off of Stetson\u2019s performance in the 2020\u20132021 moot court season, and each year, the competition is intense. And at this year\u2019s national championship, Stetson was once again, in the midst of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team has been working on the record since mid-October.\u00a0 The record involved complex issues concerning class actions and general and personal jurisdiction.\u00a0 And for the fourth time, a Stetson team\u2014Liz Kellar, Jessica Merker,<\/em><\/strong> and Peter Farrell<\/em><\/strong>\u2014was recognized for not only their team performance but also for individual advocacy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The team brought home a s<\/strong>emifinalist<\/strong> award and a third-best oralist<\/strong> award (Jessica<\/em>).\u00a0 It was a hard-fought battle\u2014Stetson argued against GW, Seton Hall, NYU, and William and Mary, in the preliminary rounds, and Texas Tech, in the quarterfinal round, before losing by 0.18\u2014yes, less than a quarter of point (heartbreaking in moot court competitions)\u2014to Chicago-Kent in the semifinal round.\u00a0 Stetson has been invited to this championship ten times, and we have reached elimination rounds six times and been semifinalists four times.\u00a0 And four times, a Stetson advocate has been recognized as a best oralist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Congratulations Liz, Jessica<\/strong>, <\/em>and Peter<\/em><\/strong>!!!!\u00a0 <\/em>And a very special thank you to the team\u2019s co-coach, James Nealon for all<\/strong> his continued support of not only this moot court team, but several others.\u00a0 And thank you to Professor Virelli, Professor Flowers, and the attorneys who helped prepare the team.
