{"id":54504,"date":"2022-02-27T14:57:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-27T19:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/docket\/?p=54504"},"modified":"2022-02-27T10:48:29","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T15:48:29","slug":"congratulations-moot-court-board-teams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/docket\/congratulations-moot-court-board-teams\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations, Moot Court Board Teams!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It has been an extremely busy weekend for Stetson\u2019s Moot Court Board, with four teams competing virtually, and one team competing in-person.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After months and months of preparation\u2014first, writing a brief (or two memorials, in the case of the Jessup team) and practicing oral arguments for two, or three (for the NELMCC team), parties, the teams performed extraordinarily well.&nbsp; Our teams continue to show why Stetson is an advocacy powerhouse\u2014a consistent presence as a top competitor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The results are in for four of the teams:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, U.S. National Rounds:<\/strong>\u00a0 First time ever, that all U.S. teams competed in one regional.\u00a0 Usually, there are 6 regionals held across the nation; this year, 87 U.S. competed in one regional.\u00a0 Our Stetson team of <em><strong>Lilly Torres, Tabitha Blackwell, Rebecca Doloski, Remee Farah, and Sara Spears<\/strong><\/em> battled it out through the preliminary rounds, with an impressive record of 3-1, to advance to the top 32 teams in the competition. \u00a0\u00a0Knowing that the top 16 teams are invited to Worlds\u2014the White &amp; Case International Rounds\u2014to be held in late March\/early April.\u00a0 And yes, our Stetson team is headed to Worlds for only the fourth time (2012, 2013, and 2015).\u00a0 The team is coached by Jessup alums Caitlein Jammo, Esq. and Diana Evans, Esq.\u00a0 Good luck at Worlds!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition (NAAC), \u201cBrooklyn\u201d Regional:<\/strong>\u00a0 NAAC is one of the most prestigious national moot court competitions, with over 180 teams competing in six regionals over a three-week period.\u00a0 Stetson had two teams participating\u2014<strong><em>Jessica Merker, Tyler Brown, and Hannah Klonowski,<\/em> <\/strong>and Anya Pardy and Travis Grover\u2014coached by Evan Dix, Esq. and Jeremy Bailie, Esq.\u00a0 Through three days of competition, the team of <em><strong>Jessica, Tyler, and Hannah<\/strong><\/em> advanced to the final round, before losing a close round to be co-finalists.\u00a0 <em><strong>Jessica<\/strong><\/em> was awarded the Fourth Best Oralist award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Jeffrey G. Miller National Environmental Moot Court Competition (NELMCC):\u00a0 <\/strong>NELMCC is a large competition with 52 teams participating and unlike other moot court competitions, there are three teams participating in each round.\u00a0 Our Stetson team of <em><strong>Lauren Beames, Mia Hartley, and Emily Witthoeft<\/strong><\/em> were impressive, winning best oralists in the courtroom awards in all three preliminary rounds\u2014Rounds 1 and 2, <strong><em>Emily<\/em>, <\/strong>and Round 3, <em><strong>Mia.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 The team advanced into the final round to face off against Duke and Lewis and Clark, and to be co-finalists.
