{"id":59171,"date":"2022-12-14T14:57:00","date_gmt":"2022-12-14T19:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/docket\/?p=59171"},"modified":"2022-12-14T12:12:59","modified_gmt":"2022-12-14T17:12:59","slug":"congratulations-to-participants-in-the-fall-2022-phelps-dunbar-first-year-appellate-advocacy-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/docket\/congratulations-to-participants-in-the-fall-2022-phelps-dunbar-first-year-appellate-advocacy-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to Participants in the Fall 2022 Phelps Dunbar First-Year Appellate Advocacy Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Congratulations to the participants in, and the winners of, the Fall 2022 Phelps Dunbar First-Year Appellate Advocacy Competition.&nbsp; The first-year appellate advocacy competition is the capstone event at the end of Stetson\u2019s R&amp;W II courses.&nbsp; All R&amp;W II students had completed an appellate brief and presented an oral argument, and the top six students (three from each section) were selected to participate in the competition.&nbsp; The competition was held last night on Zoom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please join me in congratulating ALL of these students for their hard work and extraordinary performances.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants and Round Winners:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Round 1:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Gabby Zapun (round winner)<a> <\/a>v. Nicole Janicki<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Round 2:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Jacob Kesler v. Caitlin Carey (round winner)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Round 3:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Jordan Gotay (round winner) v. Colin Sullivan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best Oralist (a tie): \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Gabby Zapun and Jordan Gotay<br>Runner-up Best Oralist: \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Colin Sullivan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students dusted off their oral argument notes and participated in this competition after finishing their final exams last week.&nbsp; The attorneys from Phelps Dunbar asked many thoughtful questions involving the limits of the exceptions to the Fourth Amendment.
